About Alex

Alex Paton (b.1991) is a London based musician and composer. On hearing the 'Imperial March' in the Star Wars films at the age of seven, Alex was inspired to learn how to play an instrument. He now composes for a variety of cross media genres including theatre, film and dance. Recent collaborations have included scoring for a multitude of projects including award winning shows, these include companies such as the likes of English National Ballet, Alvin Ailey dance company, Feet Off The Ground Dance, This Egg Theatre, Adverto films, Epheremal Ensemble, Fools Cap Theatre and more. He also performs in several bands as a multi instrumentalist and accompanies and runs workshops for movement and dance as a musician/accompanist.

“Alex was a fantastic composer to work with on our dance production Weight/Wait. He listened carefully to our ideas and worked (to a really quick deadline) with us in and out of the studio to find the right composition for this work. The music is delicately and uniquely crafted and has become like another character on stage. We are already looking forward to working with him again.“

“Alex was a fantastic collaborator on our most recent show, dressed, where he worked alongside singer and songwriter Imogen Mahdavi to create an eclectic mix of tracks.”

Matthew Rushing, Rehearsal Director & Guest Artist for The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre

“My name is Matthew Rushing and I am the Rehearsal Director as well as Guest Artist for The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. I have choreographed 3 ballets for the Ailey company during my 25 years with the organization, and have also had the opportunity to choreograph ballets for Yale Dance Theater and other regional dance companies in the United States. I recently have had the pleasure of working with Alex Paton as an accompanist as well as a composer for a score for one of my most recent ballets TRIBUTE. Alex has an incredible gift of making one's ideas into a sonic reality. His expertise and versatility in the composition of music allows a choreographer unlimited access to musical ideas. Rarely have I worked with a composer that has such a great collaborative spirit. Not only did Alex execute  the tasks I presented him, but he also was very inspiring in the way he presented his own ideas. My time working with Alex Paton was full of creativity and inspiration and I am looking forward to the next time I can collaborate with such a great artist.”
